I have a gas furnace (Day and Night brand) that is about 25 years old. It heats fine but has an extremely noisy blower motor. It is a loud combination of thump, thump, thump with a lot of sheet metal noise. The blower is direct drive (no belt) and I cannot see without doing a complete dismantling where there are any lubrication points. So is the motor worn out or can I go in and attempt to tighten up "loose parts"?

Prehaps the blower is loose on the motor shaft or the bearing in the motor are worn. Have you checked these yet?

I just recently installed a new central a/c. When the compressor kicks on, there is a high-pitched sound coming through the a coil. With just the fan on or the furnace, this noise is not present. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. P.S. The installer isn't sure what it is either
