    Infected new belly piercing
Ok. Here is my question. I am a 55 yr old grandma that just had my belly pierced. It was done on Sept 8, 2007. It has been looking really good. The night before last some how in my sleep I caught it in something. I presume my POW-MIA bracelet. Well now it is very sore & also has a nice lump between the top & bottom of my piercing. Can some one help explain what to do to help it. I believe the piercing I have is a bar jewel not a ring. The top screws off if this helps identify.
    Thank-you so much in advance,
    Millie

It sounds to me like you just irritated it. This happens a lot with belly button piercings, especially when they are pierced with a barbell instead of a ring like they should be.

Take some ibuprofen and put a warm compress on it for 10 minutes twice a day. I don't know how much you are cleaning it, but clean it only once a day to give it time to get over this little irritation. Keep an eye on it for green or yellow discharge, severe swelling or severe redness. If any of these occur, see a doctor for possibly some antibiotics.

After 6 weeks it should be stabalized enough to change the jewelry, and I would change it to a ring until it is fully healed (6-8 months) to prevent this from happening again. :)

Hummmm Why now. Well I have wanted it for a very long time. Just getting up the guts. I have to laugh at that answer when I jump at the chance for a tattoo in a New York Second. LOL Besides my next to the youngest was down here for a visit at the shore & I was looking she said I dare you Mom you don't have the guts. Well they all should know I don't do well against dares. LOL And to be honest the piercing hurt way less than my nose piercing. The catching it on my bracelet well on that note it hurt way more. But I'm going to make it. It seems way better.

    Thanks Everyone
