Washer backs up into both bathroom tubs, with linty backwater
This is my first question, just discovered your wonderful website~

Let me preface this with my husband is working out of town and I though a capable woman I am not real repair oriented, so some advice would be very much appreciated!

We have a septic system, and we have two tanks, a gray water tank and a black water tank.

A few months ago, I noticed when I did a load of wash, especially if had been raining,
(Central Florida does indeed have a rainy season :) ) linty water would back up into both bathtubs.

Someone told me that my gray water tank need to be pumped, which we had done and it seemed to be okay for a while. The Septic tank technician told me that our drainfield had been crushed and that the tank couldn't drain properly and with all the rain it could happen again, and that we really needed to replace our drainfield. Not exactly sure what aal that entails, but my husband wasn't too thrilled with the news. For a variety of reasosn that isn't a financial option at the moment... Anyway, it started happening again, so we called to have it pumped again. This technician told me the problem was roots inside the gray tank, and that once they were inside the tank, we had to replace the tank...
But this time it only solved the problem for like a day and then it started backing up into the tubs, and this time the water not only backed up into the tub it seeped out of the tub from the floor and what a mess... No problems as long as I don't use the washer...
Anyway in searching this site I am wondering if we are candidates for snaking from the roof vent? And what exactly does that entail? How do I know how big a snake and how long a snake to get? Is is something a novice would mess up? (I will wait for my husband of course... but these trips to the laundramat are a pain and getting expensive in themselves...

A 50' rod should be long enough YOur husband will have to get uop on roof and push the rod down through vent line. IF this does no good then you will have to go to the drain line and rod it out. IF your septic tanks were full they would also be backing up into youy toilet s. I always throw about 4 blocks of yeast down the toilet into my septic tank. it femits and builds up a lot of good bacterior. IF I've heelped rate my ans. Below F.B.E.
