Paralyzed Beagle
My friend's beagle just became paralyzed last Tuesday. She needed emergency surgery for a slipped disc and is now paralyzed. We are still hoping for the best, since the Vet said it can take 2 weeks to really tell. But, so far, it does not seem promising.
We're having a tough time because the poor thing is constantly urinating. She cannot feel herself urinate or have a bowel movement. We are trying all types of diapers, but nothing seems to stay on properly.
Please help.
Thank you.

Re: Paralyzed Beagle
You may be able to control the urinations with the sanitary garments made for females in season. Ask at the pet store for Seasonals. They may stock another brand, but should know what you mean. Human sanitary napkins often work better and are cheaper than the ones sold in pet stores.
This is a paragraph from instructions on housebreaking. Clean up accidents promptly. I mostly keep the little
Puppies out of the carpeted rooms. Still I need the can of carpet foam
Sometimes. First blot up all the urine you can with a dry towel. Keep moving
It and stepping on it until a fresh area stays dry. A couple big putty knives
Work well on bowel movements. Just slide one under it while holding it with
The other. This gets it up with a minimum of pushing it down into the carpet.
This works with even relatively soft ones, vomit, dirt from over turned house
Plants, or anything else from solids to thick liquids. Finish up with a good
Shot of carpet foam. Note, do not let the puppy lick up the carpet foam.
This is a tough time for your friend. I am hoping for the best.

Re: Paralyzed Beagle
After searching frantically for the little doggie carts for paralized dogs, I finally found them
< www.k9carts.com>
Why didn't I think of that to begin with. The carts, which I have seen in use are the most wonderful gadgets I have seen. I hope your dog gets along well.

Just read about your friends dog. Hope everything went well with the surgery. On 190 North on channel 7 a local Chicago TV station they just did a story about a solution that is injected within 72 hrs of a dog getting injured and being able to walk again. Hopefully this will help others in a similar situation as your friend. Wishing you and your friend the best.

Wheelchair
Hi, I saw your post and highly recommend a wheelchair. My baby German shepherd / border collie in heaven now lost use of both back legs and I had a cart made for him at www.eddieswheels.com . It worked like a dream and he was so happy to get around again. I do hope your baby is feeling better soon. They also do have orthopedic specialists for pets. Most you will need a referral from your regular vet!!
