All necessary and allowable expenses per IRS regulations and code sections. Such expenses should be backed up by receipts and documentation.

You can also depreciate your house on a pro-rated basis based on the square footage of the house versus the area that is used to provide the care.

You can also deduct the pro-rated costs of the utilities (electric, gas, water, sewer, garbage collection; but NOT landscaping or cable/satellite TV).

This one got me curious. What if they are paying for extended cable channels to provide entertainment for the adults in their care?

It MAY be deductible under those circumstances, but if the IRS would audit and challenge the deduction, they would have to show how the cable was needed for entertainment purposes.

Further, only PART of the cable bill would be deductible, the part used to entertain the senior citizens.
