    Real Estate License (Felon)
I was conficted of a felony in Iowa 8 years ago. I was put on probation and had to pay restitution. I paid all the restitution early and was release from probation 1 year early. I now live in Colorado. Can I get a Real Estate license in this state with a felony?
    Thanks

    Hello pebbles:

If your crime was one of moral turpitude, then I doubt you can get a license. However, if you just sold crack, then you might.

It's tough taking all those real estate classes not knowing if you can get a license, but I don't think you can find out for sure without actually applying. I wouldn't do that without a lawyer either.

PS> My answer presumes that Colorado doesn't specifically prohibit ALL felons from applying, although it might. I haven't read the requirements.

Read the application carefully and answer all questions truthfully.

If your crime didn't relate to the area of Real estate or financial crime, there's a chance you could get the license...

Here in Tennessee each case is reviewed by the real estate commission on a case by case basis. This has to be approved before you even start the real estate classes. I took the class here last year, and on the first day, at the start of class, they asked if anyone was a felon, and we had a few, then they asked if they had already gotten a waiver, one had a couple had not, the ones that had not, had to leave, they could not even take the class.

You need to talk to at least 3 people in CO state license dept to get the correct answer... many states are now requiring fingerprints so don't like as they will determine you are a felon eventually.
