Luke warm air comes out of AC; fan not working
The air barely comes out of the central AC, and it is not cold. I checked the big fan that is on the top and it is not moving. I know practically nothing about AC, but am very willing to learn!

    Thanks,

    Scott

PS This is my first post on this site; I hope it is fruitful.

If the condenser fan is not working it won't cool. Is the compressor running or nothing at all? If nothing is running check all your breakers inside the house and out at the a/c unit.

It does run; however, it makes a strange loud hissing noise.

I had already flipped some breakers that were outside beside the unit and then one that was inside in the main breaker box.

Should I have given the fan some time to come on. I was afraid that without the fan being on something would burn out.

    Thanks,

    Scott

PS Thanks for the super fast response!!

Don't run it with the fan not running(It will do damage to the compressor) the noise you hear is the compressor bypassing from high pressures. Your fan motor may be out or just a simple easy fix of a bad run capacitor.

The capacitor was the problem. I wish I knew how to go in a check that myself. I guess it was $88 well spent. Better than having to buy a new compress or fan motor.

    Thanks
