I'd like to know the procedure to change my child's first name. She is 8 years old.
When I checked with the city court, they told me I need to go through the lawyer for that.

But when I checked the several websites, they said I do not have to have a lawyer to change my child's first name.

So would you let me know what procedures I need to exactly follow? I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The city court may be correct and you will need a lawyer to change it legally. From the information I have sourced it can be done up until a year of birth if the parents feel they have made a mistake.

This is an unusual request for an eight year old child. Why don't you just start calling her by the name you want if she doesn't find it confusing, but then, school classes may be a problem if you do that.
