    Ukiyo-e influence on western art
Anyone know any good artists/works to look at for this topic?
Got to be in the late 1800's and early 1900's
I'm having difficulty seeing the similarities.

Don't know if you still need this but here goes. Some of the major painters during the Japonism movement were Van Gogh, Monet, Degas and Cassatt. The one that I personally can see the Ukiyo-e influences in is van Gogh. We tend to use fading and blurring to create depth. With so many of his pieces he uses layering and size. The back grounds are just as clear and detailed as the fore, giving them almost a flat feeling while you can still see the depth. Often to the focal image seems to float unconnected to the rest, due to the stronger outlines. He also has a painting, it's a couple trees with a house behind them(sorry only saw the title once, in german), the strong broad dark lines used to create the trees gives the impression of a woodblock print.
