Quick question - we're replacing a ceiling fan in our living room today with a new one which has a remote... the wiring doesn't match up and I need to confirm which wires to
Use before I move forward...

Out of the ceiling I have

White / black / red / ground

Receiver in side - I have

White / red

Receiver out - I have

White / blue / black

Fan unit - I have

White / blue / black

Now, my initial intent was to wire as this

Ceiling (white / red) <---> receiver in (white / red)

Receiver out (white / blue / black) <---> fan (white / blue / black)

The problem I have is this leaves the source black wire from
The ceiling hanging...

What should I do ?

I'm going to make a dangerous assumption here by assuming that you read the section in the instructions on wiring the fan and light package.

If the wiring in the ceiling is Black, Red, White and Ground, than I suspect that the fan is set to work off more than one switch. The "Red" line is what is called a traveler and it is a load carrying line.

I'm not sure about your theory of wiring so please read the wiring section again.

The White, Black and Blue lines usually mean: Black = Load in Fan, Blue = Load in Lights
White = Neutral and Bare =Ground. Given that you have a remote circuit, you also have to account for that.

If the wiring diagram with the instructions is missing, go to the manufacturer of the fan's website and look for the instructions for that fan by it's model number. Review the wiring.

Just cap off the black wire. Or connect the receiver's red to the black, and cap off the ceiling red. Either way will work.
