A plant that is very, very tart has big green leaves and redish, pinkish stalks and that is the part you eat. When I was young and lived in the country we used to get a salt shaker and go to the rhubarb patch and eat till we were sick.

Shy the only thing we did with rhubarb was eat it raw or put it in pies. What else do you do with it besides make cakes?

What's the best thing your grandmother made?
My grandmother's specialty was fried chicken.

Too bad,all my grandma's were gone long before I could remember and the only one left was too old and she is gone too.
My mom and MIL are wonderful cooks though... they can whip a great dish anytime.
Fudge sounds yummmy for dessert.
With a meal of fried chicken and rice.:)

Every since the Looney Bin shut its doors, I've been homeless. I really miss that nice nurse coming around with my meds and a nice snack.

Rhubarb - got to love it. Cakes, sauce, pie, wine, and rhubarb crisp - all good.
Rhubarb Cake - this from my Grandmother
1 1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup shortening (remember Crisco?)
1 egg
2 cups white flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour milk (if you do not have sour milk, you can sour mil by adding a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar)
2 cups cut up rhubarb
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
Topping for the cake
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon (or more to your tastes) cinnamon
OR
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup coconut
Cake:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg. Beat well. Add dry ingredients and milk. Mix well. Add rhubarb and vanilla. Place in 13 x 9 greased and floured cake pan. Add your choice of toppings.
Bake in 350 degree oven for 30-40 minutes.
