Installation of heat pump in attic
    Location: STANHOPE, NJ

    Current system :
Heat : Oil Boiler (30 years old) with water pipe running in the walls
Provide also hot water to the house
Cool : 3 wall mounted SANYO with pump outside (12 years old)

    Objective
The current system is old an $$$ to operate.
Sometime we have no hot water.

    What are my options?

I would like to know if it is a good idea to install a heat pump in the attic.
    Heat and cooling system
Install duct (Look no to difficult using closet)

What do I have to consider?
    Can I do it myself?
Cost range if installed by pro?

You can install a heat pump in the attic if you have enough room, you need at least 30 inches of head clearance where the air handler would be installed and at least ten linear feet in length for the air handler and plenums as well as a 30"x30" crawl hole to service this unit as well as install it.
Considerations might be the mild temperature of a heat pump, the electrical requirements of the heat pump and additional aux. heat, a person could do himself but I might suggest you have someone help you who has experience or you might do what you can do yourself and hire a contractor to do what you can't do.
Don't know prices in your area and what size equipment.Good luck to you, Mike
