    Collection agency issue
I worked for a company 12 yrs ago and they were sold. I had no ownership in the company. I was the general manager and wrote checks and managed the company, but that was it. I got a letter from a collections agency out of the blue recently that says this company, using my home address, owes a lot of money plus interest. They have called my current work phone, my home phone, and sent two letters.

Does a collections agency have the right to go after an employee? Am I liable at all? How do I make them stop? I am afraid to contact them because then they have found me and I don't want to get into any legal confrontation.

    Can anyone help me?

    Thanks,

If you were absolutely not an official of the company then I don't see how they can come after you for money. No, don't contact them, ignore them but keep any correspondence they send you and if they persist, then have your lawyer send them a letter siting harassment.

They can't just ask you to pay, they must have a judgment against you to make you pay and then as you say you were just an employee of the said company, I don't know how they could collect from you.
