Concrete patio and sealcoat protectant on foundation
I am having a concrete patio poured in back of my home where you would step out of the rear sliding glass door. I am having difficulty figuring what to do with the black seal coat tar that will show one inch above the finished patio surface. The problem is with the grade of my yard away from the home. We had two options to think about when forming the concrete patio; 1. if we formed the patio to be above the sealcoat tar then our patio would be very high in the air with the step from the patio to the yard forcing me to bring in extra tons of gravel for the foundation and top soil for the finished grading and landscaping, 2. Leave patio forms as is (one inch below the sealcoat) and figure a stylish and appealing way to just cover up the strip of black sealcoat tar. Our patio is 30ft x 22ft which is a very large patio making the black sealcoat strip above the patio very obvious. We are going with option 2 and I need some help as of how to cover up the black sealcoat strip at the top of our patio. I have thought about trying to paint over it and paint our poured stamped concrete foundation, but don't know how successful this would be. Does anyone have any ideals.

    Thank You

You can not paint on top of that sealcoat, it just won't stick. You may consider using a Remington nail gun to attach ametal screen used to hold stucco and mortar to walls, frequently used to install faux brick and stone. You can then add stucco or fake stone or brick between the step and the patio. You could even pain the stucco.
