    My New Poodle stopped eating!
I got a new poodle pup last Tuesday, he was given his vacc and last wormings the day before I got him. Tuesday he didn't eat much and didn't drink anything, Wednesday he was eating a little better but still not drinking water. Thursday he was drinking water great and eating, then Thursday night he threw up a little. Friday morning he woke up and ate and drank a lot of water (drank like he was dehydrated), then he threw up about 15 minutes later and he hasn't eaten anything since then. Yesterday (saturday) he drank a little water during the early morning and then quit taking anything at all. He just laid down, couldn't stand up, wouldn't hardly move. He took him to an emergency room vet visit last night, vet thought he was hypogly. Gave him some shots, said he should be fine by 8:30 last night and when he got peppy we were suppose to feed him. But it didn't happen, by 8:45 he was looking almost like he was in a coma, didn't matter what I did to him he wouldn't move. Midnight last night he finally opened his eyes but he wouldn't eat, couldn't stand at all, or even move his head very much. I force feed him a little (and I mean a very little), during the night he got out of his bed and moved somewhere else to sleep. When I got up this morning, he was a little peppier (he could hold his head up and even stood up for a few seconds) I tried to feed him-no luck, so I force feed him a small sirnge of prescription food the vet gave us last night. After this he laid down and couldn't get back up. He is at the vets right now (had diarr. From the little amount he ate this morning) and the vet seems to be kind of stumped about the problem. No fever, cough, cold, conjestion, etc. Bowl sounds, heart rate, etc. are good. He said he wasn't hypogly. But he was sick with something, he just didn't know what it was. The vet is going to put him on IV's to try and pick him up some. Has this ever happened to anyone before. I am so upset and I just want to know what is wrong with my baby. Please help!

My puppy stopped eating for a day or two after his shots. Try putting some cottage cheese on the food. Maybe he has an infection from the needle from his shot. We had that happen to one of our cats and he had to go on antibiotics for 10 days.

Tempting a dog that won't eat with cottage cheese or other rich food is nearly always the wrong thing to do. Read through the sticky at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/i...tml#post254171

It sounds like you have a very sick dog and not eating is only a symptom of the problem. Keep working with the vet. If the vet doesn't find something soon, you may want to consider a different vet.

Ok, my baby "chewy" is back from the vet. IV worked wonders on him, he is drinking water since being home, but he hasn't eaten anything. He still has the IV starter thing in his leg (incase he needs it again). If he doesn't eat tonight then he has to go back on an IV in the morning, if he does eat tonight then the IV starter will come out in the morning. At least he is up moving around and drinking water again. The vet also gave him some antibiotics to take, so we will see what happens.

I guess I didn't have a chance to post until you already had some good news. Let the medicine work, and skip tempting him with rich food unless the vet suggests it is a case for it. I hope he doesn't have to go back to the IV.
