Some of my Desktop Icons won't open
    Hi,
Probably something I have done, or I have just had a Win32/PEPatch virus/malware, now cleaned out, has stopped some of my essential Desktop Icons opening with a double/click of the mouse, i.e. Recycle Bin, Control Panel, and a Tools icon I keep all my handy cleaner programs in. How can I get them to work open again with the mouse. I am not afraid to go into the Registry and change something, as I know to back up the Registry first.
    Thanks, grifval10

The virus might have deleted the .exe files of the respective icons. To restore the programs you might need to re-install, and repair your OS because the some system programs might have been removed.

When you double-click the icon is there a message that "can't find location... Browse for program..." ?

    Hi,

No, when I double-click them, a busy cursor shows, then it stops, and nothing else happens. It has only affected about 3 out of 20 Desktop Icons, but they are ones I used a lot, i.e. Recycle Bin, Control Panel, and a Tools Icon I put on the Desktop myself.

Forgot to say, I can open them if I reight-click, drop down the menu and select 'open', but that seems a long way round.

Then you should just create new shortcut by right-clickin on the program icon(.exe) and select create shortcut.
