Any weedkiller safe to use on the banks of a stream ?
I have a small stream in my garden that I would like to landscape, the are a lot of brambles and nettles that I have started to cut back , but they are starting to come back very quickly.
The weedkillers off the shelf say that I must not use near water.

Any suggestions for a weedkiller that is safe to use on the top of the banking ?

    Many Thanks
    George

I wouldn't use any kind of weed killer near running water. Suggest you dig those brambles and nettles up in the fall when you can see the roots more easily.

I don't know of a safe one. You might go to your county extension service for advice. It is a USDA service and they have offices in even the most urbanized counties. A real lawn and garden supply, not a big box store, might be able to help.

Another thing would be to spread a tarp over the area for a week or 2. The heat and lack of light will kill anything.

Your best beat would be to get hold of someone who sprays chemical profesionally like certain garden maintenance companys have these qualifications. They will be able to spray anything 2 metres from the edge of the bank but no closer. Or they may even use a chemical which you can use near water.

donniemarko, you have to read the date of the original post. This one is from August 07 and the OP has probably already dealt with the weed problem.
