The drains under the basement floor, that drain ground water to my sump pump keep filling up with sand. I broke up some of the floor and found the tile was broke in several spots. I would like to know how to replace it and what to use. How much gravel should I put around the tile? How deep and wide should the trench be?

I'm confused. Your drain lines drain water from where? You speak of broken Terra-Cotta pipes but refer back to a trench and a french drain. Where's the trench at? Tom

I may have used the wrong terminology. When digging for a basement do they not dig trenches, put in pea stone, or some gravel to filter the water that enters the drain pipes. These pipes lead to a sump where a sump-punp, pumps it outside. How deep and how wide should the trench be? How much pea stone, or gravel should be around the pipe?
