Hi,
I have a problem. My problem is that my TV, dvd, and surround sound all hooked up to one outlet in the living room. All of them shut on and off at the same time. I checked the breaker and it is not tripped. I changed the TV, dvd, and surround sound to a differ outlets and the problem still exists. On the breaker it shows that the living room outlets and the washer outlet are on the same. I have never had a problem until now. It has been unsually rainy and humid. When I went to the basement where the breaker is located it was humid and damp down there. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, I did shut the living room breaker off and on to see if there might be a problem there and it did seem to crackle a little.

Any crackle noise is not good, this needs to be checked and repaired before any more damage is done. As far as one outlet having a problem with the remaining circuit fine, usually is a loose connection either at the outlet that is having a problem, or the last working outlet on the circuit. If you find wires pushed into holes on the back of the outlets, that is a popular cause of loose connections.

Thanks for your reply... the noise sounds more like when your television station goes out and you have that static screen and it happens when I turn the breaker off for the living room. My next question is if I were to check the outlets for pushed up wires how would I fix that if that is the problem. Thanks again.

Twist back and forth and pull out, or insert small screwdriver to release, make a hook and wrap around screw and tighten. Remove breaker and look where it plugs onto Buss.
I would verify good connections at washer, TV, and each side of bad outlet, like above.
If a breaker is questionable, swap with another for test.

I'd also check any and all GFI outlets and their source's to see if any has been tripped... at their outlets, esp outside outlets.

You can purchase your own three prong receptacle tester, at Radio Shack or similar, and test each outlet. The tester has an LED read-out and will tell you if there is power or any other common concern.

If you still find nothing yourself, a licensed professional should be brought in.

Don't take a chance with your house.
