    Child Support
Hello, I have some questions regarding my finances child support. He pays $240 per month which is not a problem but yesterday he received a letter saying it was going to be raised to $340 per month. The problem that he has is that he only makes $8 an hour. He lives out on his own so he pays rent plus bills by himself. The mother of the child still lives at home with her parents, works full time and does not have to pay for day care because my finances family pays for it. Any idea of why and how they can raise his child support more? Is it supposed to be based on both incomes?
    Thanks for your help!

Did the letter come from a court? Did it refer to a hearing in which the amount was raised? What he would need to do is petition the court for a hearing to modify the support.

It came from our state child support office. It did not say anything about a hearing. Which is why we are confused. He's tried to call them all morning and hasn't got a response. Thanks again for your help.

Yeah it sounds kind of odd that there wasn't a hearing. Usually in order to change a current court order there has to be a hearing, and yes both incomes are factors.

I agree with ScottGem... keep on them... usually what works with me when I have to call child support and get no return calls... leave a voicemail, and say you need to have them call you with the name of their supervisor so you can get some answers... I always get a call the very next day :)

I would bring that paperwork to your local court and ask for a review. Unless she can prove that he has some other sort of income coming in.
