I was young and immature when I left the US 5 years ago after achieving my degree with a heavy bad debt (around 35K$) as It shows on my credit report.
I don't have a bank account in the US and I am not sure how I can pay off that debt.
I just feel guilty and culprit, and don't know what to do ? Can anyone help.
Most of the debts were charged off, and collectors are probably trying to contact me there and pumping the balance with all sorts of fees and interests, It's probably less than 35k if we take off interests and other unknown fees...
I also read in one article published by an expert in msn ( credible) that sometimes while trying to pay off collectors you just ruin it and get harassed again and again! She even suggests to leave the account for seven years and It will be cleared... but the thing is that I am not interested in enhacing my credit score, I am not willing to leave in the US anyway, but I would like to clear my shameful act and turn it to a pride...
I have a very limited income (I don't leave in the US) my country GDP per capita is very low, which means paying just 100$ a month would be too much... you do the math, I would need to pay that for 30 years... should I just call them one by one and discuss case by case (can I lower down the amount to at least what the collectors paid for the balance ?
Please help me out.

If you owe debts in the US, but are living in another country, I would think you are free and clear -- but I am not sure...

That's pretty much what it is... but I am not asking whether I am free or not, I think that a bad debt in your file wouldn't take you to jail; and It wouldn't interfer with anything related to Immigration, It's just a moral and ethical thing... I've seen a lot of websites credit repair webites... and they are all proposing tricks and workarounds to repair your credit and even improve your credit report if one day you will need a loan in the US without even paying a penny: I just feel it's not rigt to get the money from someone (or some entity) and run away with it and then protect yourself with all kinds of laws ie: statute of limitation... 7 years and all negative points are removed and rip tem again... it's just wrong!! What do I do to pay off my debt knowing that I don't work in US and 100$ is too much for my country income ? What do I do to release my guiltiness ?

After a number of years it is wrote off and they use it as a tax deduction. And after a number of years they can no longer take you to court ( for most debts) to sue you to collect the money.


You pay each 5 or 10 dollars a month if you want to pay them, but honestly you are better off at this point just not paying.
Take what you can and do some community service, help an elderly widow or some homeless person, your debt will be repaid
