Is this normal? (Concerning my toliet)
I just moved into my 1st apartment. My parents live in a different state and I was wondering if this was normal for a toilet. Should I clean it myself or should the apartment people? Jaharri06 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Everything should have been well cleaned before you moved in. That includes everything, including that toilet and all parts to it. While you certainly have the right to talk to your landlord and make a complaint that this was not cleaned appropriately, you might get the reply that this is now your responsibility. If your landlord does not give you the answer you want, you can try sending the pictures and written documentation to the owner(s) of the building and/or the housing authority where you live (if you have one for that building).

It should be clean when you move in but if you are talking about what you make dirty, you have to clean it yourself. If you have lived there a while, then it is yours to clean.

But I will say, some spray cleaner and a rag, in all the time you took to take the photos, and post them, you could have just cleaned it.
It is obvious this was under the tank lid, which would not have been taken up ( and I have to ask why did you lift it yourself) I doubt I lift that top of the tank off mine 1st a year.

I was going to put the toilet cleaner in the tank so the water would always be blue. I just moved in yesterday. I was just wondering if it is safe 2 clean that. It looks like black mold or feces and it smells. When I moved in the apartment needed a lot of cleaning. Most of it I did myself but I wondered if the cleaning crew should take care of that. ZI posted the pics so sombody could say if it was escessicly dirty or if it is normal and ican clean it myself.

Your best thing to do is to follow Father Chuck's advice - put on some rubber gloves, get some cleaner with bleach, brushes, and just clean it. Take the top off, place it in the tub, put the cleaner on it and let it soak. Then scrub and rinse with hot water.

To get those people to clean this for you would be nice, but most likely an exercise in futility. I do agree with you, however, that this should have been done before you moved in. Especially if you were told the place was clean and did a sign in walk through with the landlord, showing what was clean and what needed to be done.

Toilet back up [ 3 Answers ]

Sometimes our toilet backs up for no real apparent reason. Not much toilet paper, etc. We flush and it will overflow. Is there a product I can flush in my toilet to eat away at residue to help the pipes? My house was built in 1957 and I don't think the plumbing has had much upgrading.

Toilet [ 1 Answers ]

I think one of my children flushed something down the toilet. The only things I think it can be is either a bar of soap or a wash cloth. Now you have to plunge it every time you flush. Any suggestions on what I could do myself before I call a plumber?

Toilet doesn't fill up [ 2 Answers ]

After I flush the toilet the water continues to flow into the toilet and it won't stop. After I jiggle the handle a couple of times it finally will stop. What do I need to do inside the tank to fix this? Thank you, Pat B.
