Windows / Laptop Will NOT start up. Tried Ultimate boot cd - No Luck
Hi, I am running windows xp on a hp laptop. Fairly new, about a year old. 1 gb of ram, 120 gigs hard drive space.

    AMD turion64 dual

I try to start my computer and it just keeps restarting. It gets to the Windows logo and the loading bar. Then it restarts.

I have tried to enter safe mode and any all of the other options it gives me at the startup.

    NONE OF THESE WORK:
    Safe mode
    Safe mode with networking
    Safe mode with command prompt
    Last known good configuration

    Start windows normally

I have also tried using the ultimate boot cd. The boot cd WILL load but whenever I try to do anything with it it will not work.

This sounds like a hard drive problem to me. I have never expirienced any hard drive problems like this before. Although this is my first laptop and they are much more delicate.

Please, if there are any suggestions you may have, help me out. This laptop has all of my work on it.

This is common. One of your startup files is corrupt. Problably MUP.sys . You say that you have a boot disk. Run chkdsk from it. It will straighten out the file for you. That should clear your problem.

This sounds like the same problem my friend is having. I don't know XP nor Vista, would you mind explaining a little further.

When you say boot disk is that the same as the restore disk that came with the computer?

If so, put in boot disk and type chkdsk at the prompt?

Thanks... ahead of time for any help you can give me.

This is usually a bios setting, as I have had this a few times with different people. Enter the bios and change "Native sata mode" to DISABLE.

This should solve the issue. It is especially a problem with HP laptops that I've used.
