New car purchase and credit issue
I hope I am asking this in the correct fourm. If not, tell me and I will move it.
On August 4, 2007 I went to a local car dealership (in NC) and signed the paperwork to buy a new car. I had talked with a salesman on 8/3 prior to going to the dealership and I told him upfront that I had credit issues. The finance dept was also aware of my credit issues because they pulled a credit report. As I said, I signed the paperwork and left with my new vehicle. Throughout the next week, I received three phone messages from the finance dept at the dealership telling me to call them because they had some questions. Each time I called and left messages for them to call me back. During this time, I was talking with the salesman who sold me the car asking him what the problem was. He stated that he did not know and that he was "the low man on the totem pole". He did say that he would have someone call me back. It was not until Friday of that week that I actually spoke with someone in the finance dept. and made appointment to go to the dealership the next morning. Keep in mind that I had been driving this car all week.
When I arrived at the dealership, I was told that there was a problem with the financing and that my payments would be significantly more that what was shown on the paperwork that I signed. I refused this and after some discussion, I was to go to my bank to see about getting financing through them. I was told that it was not the dealerships intent to have me return the car and that I should keep driving it.
On the next Monday, I went to my bank and they declined to finance the vehicle. As soon as I found this out, I called the dealership and left a message telling them that this did not work out and asked that they call me back. I had to call twice more that day before I ever spoke with anyone. The finance person said "give me one more day" when I asked him what I needed to do. I was prepared to return the vehicle and pick up my trade in and my $1500.00 deposit (the dealership cashed my check knowing that there were issues). It is now Wednesday evening and I have heard nothing from this dealership and I am still driving their vehicle.
Does anyone know what the consequences will be for the dealership if they can't make this deal work? I know if I were the owner/manager of this dealership, I would have wanted that car back on my lot as soon as I found out there were issues. I am just looking for some advice as to what I should do next. They have my $1500.00 and they have my 2004 model trade in. What a mess!! :
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
