    Beagle Puppies
We have Beagle puppies (4 days old) We noticed that the Mom has fleas, and now we are seeing them on the puppies.

What can we do? Is it safe to treat a nursing dog and what should we do about the puppies?

    Any advice would be great!

Check some of the over the counter sprays and see if any of them claim to be safe for puppies. Often the recommendation is to spray a towel, and roll the puppy in it. With that, there is going to be at least limited ingestion from the puppy licking itself. It should be OK to directly spray the mother, but keep it off her nipples. You will also need to treat all the bedding. Try to select a product that kills eggs too.

It wouldn't hurt to check with the vet. A vet may be able to supply a safer, more effective product.

The best answers are ones where the expert's own experience confirms his reading and training. Not so in this case. I am not sure anyone else here can give such an answer either. I have had a new puppy every year since 1991, but never a flea problem when they were very young. Cold enough here now, that I don't expect fleas on the little black lab we picked up Friday.

    Fleas
    Hi,
My suggestion is to see a Vet. He/she will have flea control products that they can suggest using for puppies, as well as adult dogs.
By all means, you should become familiar with your local Vet of your choice, cause you will need to have contact with them about shots, etc.
I do wish you the best, and good luck with the puppies.
