    Is my fetus affected?
I just found out that I am about 1 month pregnant today and unfortunately during this past month, I had been smoking weed occasionally, and I had a few drinks on two occasions. I had no idea I was pregnant and if I knew I was I would not abuse any of these substances. So my question is, is it possible that my fetus is already affected by what I've already done??

It is possible, but highly doubtful. These substances rarely cause birth defects but can cause syndromes at birth. These substances typically have a problem after the first trimester of pregnancy.

Since you are pregnant it is strongly advised that you quit these vices now.

Occasionally? Probably not. When pregnant with my first son I had drank alcohol before I knew I was pregnant and felt like the guiltiest person in the world, but he came out fine.

As long as you stop doing it now, it should be okay, but if you are really worried, you can discuss this with your doctor. They are always open for questions and you can't get in trouble for talking about past occurrences :)

LOL I found out I was pregnant with my son on January 6... do you think I was home drinking kool-aid on the 1st? LOL... he's fine now. Those things, as J_9 said, are more damaging later in pregnancy, or if continued throughout.

Heck, I lived in Alaska where all of that is perfectly legal when I found out I was 4 months pregnant. My kiddo is a straight A student and a beautiful cheerleader today!

You know I was doing a research product on babies born to mothers who smoked weed during their pregnancy and they couldn't find any negative results to women using this.
In fact they found their babies to be smarter and weigh more at birth.
As far as drinking not sure?
    Good luck

Drinking and doing other drugs (such as heroin, cocaine, etc) can cause birth defects, and the baby can actually be born addicted to the substance their mother was using if she was using it daily.

Yes I know those substances can harm the baby I just recall from my report and the items I read was that the smoking weed doesn't harm the baby.

Birth defects are debatable. Addiction, yes, if used continuously in the second and third trimesters. Not in the first of the mother stops completely.

I'm not sure, can't say I've been in that spot, but my mother n law actually did it with all three of her pregnancies and the babies turned out smart and weiged over 8lbs at birth in fact her oldest daughter is now a doctor and her son my husband graduated with honors, she said she did it regularly during those pregnancy.

The facts are that it is known to cause possible low birth weight and possible developmental delays. Does not ALWAYS happen. But these statistics are more common than not, thus the push for not doing drugs or drinking while pregnant.

Yes, my husbands mother drank continuously with him (this was during a time when there was no link, and it wasn't frowned upon)... she was very lucky, but he's no worse for the wear... well maybe a little... :D a one time thing I wouldn't worry about though.

I agree it is best to stay away from all substances during pregnancy including those legal and not legal.

I had a cigarette every once in a while but that was about it. I really didn't miss alcohol that much.
