    Cedar shingles
I have removed a door from a shop and after place studs and plywood sheathing I need to reshingle the side of the house. At present the shingles are placed so they followed the straight edges of the aforementioned door. I don't want that straight line, so I need to removes some shingles along these edges. Do I just do this randomly, or is there a plan I should follow? If I pull off shingles must I get the nails out also? I think that one nail will typically pass through more than one shingle.

    Thanks for the advice.
