    Improving credit score
Here is my problem. We went through a death in the family, a job loss and a son going to college all in the same year. This ruined our credit. We have several judgements (all now paid) but still showing on the credit report. Most all the credit went to collections while trying to pay the judgements off. We will be paying the other credit off now. I have recently been added on to my son and daughter ccards (who have excellent credit) as authorized user (it reports to my credit) in hopes of bringing up my score as we continue to pay off the other debts as we need to finance the lease option home we are living in within three years. Any suggestions as to getting the bad stuff removed once it is paid.. creditors all say they won't do it. Any idea how long it will take for our scores to come up?

    Thanks,

    Beth

I know that, by going through the actual report, you need to get all three of them. Transunion, Experian, and Equifax. Once you have ravelled through all the debt, you can dispute items in which you believe do not belong on there. Once you dispute them , it takes 30days for the dispute to be sent to the original creditor and then another 30 days for you to get an answer. You will receive your answer via snail mail. I hope this helps.

Hello I'm a new user who also have a judgment that was satisfied. Are you saying that you can dispute judgments on your report? I never knew that. I thought a judgement was there for 10 years. Please clear this up for me. Thanks

Yes, you can dispute anything on your report, of course if it is correct, it will not be removed, the credit reporting agency contacts the company, and if they verify it is a valid record, it stays.

So if anything is wrong on the report you can correct it.

If you are reaching a settlement to pay off a debt or a judgement, and it is a settlement, part of the settlement prior to paying, would be that they address the report issue. After it is paid, there is no leverage you can use to bargain with.
