    h1b receiving 1099
My own attorney hired me for a consultant work and I made $4,000 and she will file a 1099 by the end of the year. I didn't receive the check yet because reading the posts here I realized that I am not able to work or receive money from any person but my actual employer. What happens if I receive the money and file the 1099? Will I be in trouble with Immigration or may have problems when applying for a green card? I don't want to receive the money but she keeps saying that she will file the 1099 anyway. Can she do so without any proof that I received or cashed the check?
    Thank you for your help!!
