My daughter is nearly six years old. In February of this year she was in preschool and experienced syncope. She was sent to Children's hospital for evalutation. She has had five abnoral EEG's. They say they show slowing in the left occipital region of her brain. They have no idea what is causing her dizziness, fatigue and headaches. They have not prescribed any medications for seizures so I don't believe it is epilepsy. What else could cause these symptoms. She has had a brain MRI, so that ruled out any tumors, cancer or structural problems. Are there other things that can cause abnormal eeg's? Thank you

It might be an abnormality in the heart. Was this her first time with syncope and did she have any shortness of breath? Does she have any other development delays? I would suggest looking on webmd.com to get some ideas and stay in close contact with her doctors.

She had three abnoral EKG's as well. She was seen by a pediatric cardiologist that assured me all that she has is a heart murmur. I'm at a loss.

Did they say where they think the murmur is? It kind of sound like aortic stenosis but this is a bit out of my league. If I can give you some type of good news... about one fourth of children who have murmurs do not have anything wrong with their hearts. I would restrict her activities until I got some type of confirmed diagnosis.

They didn't tell me where the murmur was. However, two of the techs told me that the abnormal ekg showed swelling in the left ventricle and something else in the left ventricle. However, the cardiologist said it was tech error in placement of the leads. The tech told me later that she double checked and had the leads were placed right. This has been going on since February and I am so confused and scared.

I worry because I see her one minute a bouncy little lively girl and in a second she can just nearly collapse from exhaustion. I was so relieved when the cardiologist told me it's a non serious murmur. But, I know something is going on somewhere. Thank you so much for your feedback!

Did they mention whether she had an enlarged heart?

They said the left ventricle was enlarged.. Nothing about the entire heart being elarged.

She has no development delays that I know of. She might be a bit hyper and a bit clumsy but she is very intelligient. She can read and she is just getting ready to start kindergarten. She does have severe allergies to nuts and carries and epi pen for that. She also has asthma and takes medication for that.

Okay I'd push for a cardiac MRI as well as (if required) a nucmed scan of the heart-This will definitely confirm the heart activity physiologically and anatomically.

She needs urgent attention if she is crashing so badly-it's important that you push the doctors on this one.

I just wanted to update you. I contacted the cardiologist again and he is going to do and Echo on Olivia Sept. 12. Thank your for your advice... hoping very much it all comes back normal!
