I just bought a washer and a wash tub. Right now the washer drains into the tub and then I control the flow to the floor drain in the basement. If I don't then it floods the basement. I tried to snake out the p-trap, but couldn't get through it, but I got through the kitchen drain instead. It works better but still floods without controlling the drainage from the tub. Sometimes the tub fills up totally and I have to watch it. It's really a pain in the neck. I was wondering if I could drain the washer through the kitchen drain plug I used with the snake. It's about 4 feet off the basement floor. It seems to me that maybe the kitchen sink water will come out of the washer drain if I did that. How would I stop that from happening. I was thinking I could go up to the basement ceiling, which is about 2 1/2 feet up. Then go across about 4 feet and down to the basement floor and then put the drain at the standard height. Would that stop the kitchen sink from draining into the washer drain. Is there an easier way? Or a better way? The kitchen sink water used to come up through the basement floor drain, but doesn't anymore.

From where? The floor drain or the tub overflows?
If the floor drain overflows then the blockage's downstream from the floor drain and that's where you should be snaking from. If you clear the drain line you won't have to change a thing. My advice? Snake the drain line from the floor drain. Good luck, Tom
