I just planted some new seed and its about 2 inches high but is turning completely brown in just some isolated spots. Anyone know what causes this?

Yes. And its just like someone drew a line through the middle the area is about 4 foot by 3 foot and just that area is brown. Strange!

I'm not an expert but maybe the seed and the sun had a different reaction.

    The heat.

Reseeding should only be done in the spring, and the fall in warmer climates. Summer is too hot for the grasslings (not a word?) to survive.

I should know. I have a brown "island" in my back yard I can't fix until April. :(

That's a bummer that you have to wait until next year. My yard looks awful.

I asked my lawn guy about it, and he laughed at me for planting too late in the season. Nice.

Hopefully you live in a warmer climate and can replant in a few weeks, say late September. If so, try some of that green cellulose matting to protect the shoots as they come up. You can get it at Home Depot. That's what was recommended to me.

I'm going to try overseeding this fall to see if that will work. But the frost will probably not be my friend.
