    Gross Basement Bathroom Smell
    Hello,
We recently had a bathroom installed in our basement and it is smelling the house up completely. The sewer smell is coming from both the toilet and sink. What could it be? The color of the water is fine. The toilet seems to be flushing fine although sometimes I find that there is a lack of water the base occasionally.

The sink does tend to take a long time to drain.
It is driving us out of the house. Please help.

    Good morning Karen,

It sure sounds like a blocked vent or worse, no vent was run out the roof at the time the basement group went in.

" the toilet seems to be flushing fine although sometimes I find that there is a lack of water the base occasionally. Also The sink does tend to take a long time to drain."
The lack of water in the bowl tells me that the system is attempting to vent through the toilet trap and the lavatory trazp and is pulling water out of both. This lowers the water seal in the traps allowing sewer gas to escape.
Sewer gas is a health hazard to your family and the methane content in sewer gas's explosive.
Get this corrected at once. Please keep me imformed. Regards, Tom

    It's fixed - Thank you
Turns out the seal that the original plumber used was too small to close up the toilet. So the new plumber came in and put a new wax seal on the toilet and we are back in business.
Thank you for your prompt response- I really appreciate it!

    Best regards,
    Karen Waterman
