When I log on to incredimail to check my emails the last one I received opens in the bottom panel automatically, I don't want them to open until I have checked them for viruses, so how do I stop them opening?

You might want to double check with Incredimail and with your anti-virus program about that. Its possible that viewing mail in the preview pane does not represent a danger to your PC. Also your A/V program may be scanning the mail as its pulled from the mail server. How do you scan mail now for viruses?

I don't scan my emails for viruses at present, that's why I want to, I looked on the web site which Fredg gave me but I haven't made much sense of it yet, I think you may be right in that my AV prog. Is scanning the incoming emails

Hi,
It is also possible that what you see is the Preview Pane of the last email message.

You might try turning it off as follows; and see if it takes care of the issue:

Click on Tools, then Options.
Click on Advanced, and uncheck "Preview attachments". (left click on it to remove the checkmark, if it is checked).
Click on OK.
Don't know if the above will solve it for sure, but might.

What A/V program do you use? For the most part, you can't get a virus just by reading an e-mail. Usually you only get infected by following a link or downloading and running an attachment.

There are a small number of viruses that might infect just by opening the e-mail. But if you have all your critical Windows updates, that's unlikely.

I tried unchecking 'preview attachments' it didn't make any difference. I am using Avg free version virus checker and I also use zone alarm, I use Windows XP Pro and I have windows Xp set to run a check of my PC every Mon.

I'm not that familiar with AVG. But I would doubt if the free version included a real time piece that scans e-mail and files as you download them. You would have to check with them as to the specific features you have. If AVG does not have a real time e-mail monitor, that means it doesn't matter whether you view mail in a preview mode or open the mail fully. AVG is not scanning the mail.
