I've been hunting around for a large breed of dog for ages now. And I've come across a breed I find very intresting and amazing Its called the Dogo Argentino. I was wondering if anyone could help me out in finding a breeder that's somewhat close to me.. I live in The valley in NS and I realize the nearest breeder may be in the states. I was also wondering what information you could give me on the breed. Like medical problems and other things like that.

If it is an AKC breed, you can find information on it at American Kennel Club - akc.org. Likely CKC has a website too. Otherwise you may have to take your chance with Google. Most of what a search on care and training turns up is garbage, but I would think a breed description or breeder found that way would be reliable as any. I don't trust breed descriptions or breeders. Many of the labs I have had plainly never read their breed descriptions. I have had ones that wouldn't go in the water.

Finding a good breeder and purchasing a puppy that will make a good pet is very difficult. Almost nobody is intentionally breeding dogs to be nice pets. Most of your so called reputable breeders are breeding for show or something. They may say the puppies they don't keep for their purpose make great pets, but the truth is that the parents were selected for other than health and temperament. Often they keep the puppies in the kennel too long and they miss the important early socialization puppies need to live in the house with people.

Next are the disreputable breeders. They breed any 2 registered dogs they can lay a hold of looking only at the money they can make selling them to pet stores. Pet store puppies are easy to find, but difficult to socialize into nice pets, perhaps difficult to even keep alive. You will not get what you pay for at a pet store.

One of the best sources for dogs with a predictable personality is the rescue

Its recognised in FCI, NKC, APRI, ACR and ACA how would I find the sites for these. You say you don't trust breed descriptions or breeders. So how else would I find information on this kind of dog. I do believe it is a rare breed

You could see what Family Communications - Home or City of North Kansas City bring up. You could do a search on them. Breed descriptions should be written by those familiar with the breed, and many, but not all of the breed will have some of the characteristics of the descriptions. But you really can't count on a puppy you buy being typical of the breed.

If you do find a breeder for such an unusual breed, it is more likely they will be somebody that loves the breed rather than somebody out for a fast buck like many common breeds.

Under Breed Specific Legislation, Argentine Dogos are banned in Australia, New Zealand and Great Britain. In addition, it is one of the four restricted species of dog specifically mentioned in the United Kingdom's Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. It is unfortunate this breed has been classified as dangerous, as this likely has come more from its appearance which implies aggression and danger, than actual liklihood of same. Binx I came across this while trying to see what type of dog you were asking about. I don't know where you are from, or it may or may not be true. You may want to check it out. I have not found anything yet that states this breed is not allowed in canada. Though I did find one breeder.

Binx, a dogo argentino is quite different from the French Bulldog you were talking about purchasing from British Cameroon.? Being that they are a rare breed, expect them to cost a great deal of money. They also aren't a colder climate dog. If you are intent on getting a dog through a breeder, (I wish you would rethink that idea and save a dog that might otherwise be euthanized, Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten.) make sure you gather as much information as you can once you find one. Ask to speak to clients and see the temperament of the dogs prior to committing yourself.

Ruby.. it was a ripoff :(. (I was only going to take them because he was giving them away before he supposabally moved so far away. I didn't want anything bad to happen to them)
That's what them pups were. And I tried petfinder ruby but none of the rescues would allow their dogs out of the usa and I am in canada. There's one breeder in canada and that's all.. no other dogo's around here for adoption. And yea ruby a pet quality one will cost about 1,800 and a show dog around 2,800 or less

In conjunction with your latest question regarding breeding, you might want to consider volunteering at a local shelter or rescue and actually physically see what it takes to deal with taking care of newborns. Those places all have vets who work with them and I am sure they will be willing to answer all of your questions.
