    Have desktop hooked to router and need to get my laptop working wirelessly
    I have a HP desktop that is hooked to a D-Link router. Just bought a new Lenovo laptop. The laptop connects to the internet if I run a cable f mthe router to the laptop. How do I get my laptop to detect the internet wirelessly??

    If the router you are using is wi-fi compatible then you have to configure your laptop with the proper IP address to connect to the router.

    The router is wi-fi compatible. I have always had work laptops that when I brought them home to work, would automatically detect the internet. I have integrated wireless on my new laptop. I amnot sure where I need to conifgure the IP address? I can see my home network in the Network Connections but can't connect to it.

    You do not need to configure your IP. If this laptop is also used on other networks you definitely don't want to do that. You want to leave it that it obtains an IP automatically.

    What OS is on the laptop? Did you run the Connection wizard to set up a wireless connection? Do you get any error messages?

    The laptop is for personal use. It has Windows Vista. I know I have it checked to obtain an IP automatically. I can see my wireless network in the Network COnnection Manager. But not sure how I get the laptop to connect to the network. Clicking on the network doesn't help.

    There should be an icon in the try area that shows available wireless networks.

    As stated in my previous response, I can see my network. I\m wondering is there is a compatibility issue with my desktop running Xp and the laptop running Vista?
