Being Sued for Credit Card Debt, Do I need a lawyer?
I am being sued for credit card debt that is about 7 - 10 yrs old. I was served a judgement in 2005 but the account had been in active since 2000 and was sold to a collection agency since that time. They have attempted to put a levy on my bank account but have not been able to do so. I'm not sure exactly what else to do at this point. I agree that I owe the $1K plus interest before the account was sold, but as far as the other portion which is all the retainer fees and court fees totalling almost $4K I don't agree to. At this point I'm not sure what to do, I have only been working full time for the last year and I'm still struggling to play catch up and keep my head above water as it is. What do I do? Do I need a lawyer? How can I afford one, when I can't even afford the debt I owe?

You said that "I am being sued for credit card debt that is about 7 - 10 yrs old", and then you said, "I was served a judgement in 2005."
No, I would say at this point in time a lawyer can't do anything for you. The case is closed, and you now have a court order to pay the debt.
You needed to make payment arrangements with the debtors. If you can't pay back the debt, my advice would be to close your bank account and put your vehicle in someone else's name because they will levy that next. Even if your car is only worth $1,000, they may still do so. Ya never know!

I agree its too late for a lawyer. You aren't BEING sued you were sued and a judgement already obtained. Once they find your job and bank account they will garnish them.
