Violence in Georgia Juvenile Justice System
I am doing a term paper on how probation officers, corrections officers, and prison staff respond to inmates in Georgia's Juvenile Justice System that are disobedient, uncooperative, or outright violent. I would like to find out what are the legal requirements in these situations and the legal limits to which officials can go in punishing the violators. Any input, information, or reference sources would be greatly appreciated. It would be especially helpful to hear from people who have worked in this capacity and how they responded to "conflicts".

    Hello ice:

We just do general legal stuff here. I don't think you're going to find anybody whose going to help. Ceptin me, maybe.

If you want to do a paper that matters, do your own investigation. However, if you just want to report what other people tell you, then do what you're doing.

I can tell you this much. Even if you found these probation officers and corrections officials, do you expect them to tell you what they REALLY do?? Or do you expect them to tell you what they want you to know??

Uhhhh, the two of those things, AIN'T the same - not even close.

I'm sure that what they want you to know, is that they're very sensitive and caring people who look out for the rights of the children in their care. Bwa, ha ha ha.

I hear you, excon. I know where you are coming from. I just thought that maybe someone that had worked in the system might read my question and be able to refer me to some official guidelines or reference material that provided the answers I need for this paper. I have been searching the net for two days and can't find anything on the subject. I'm sure it exists somewhere but will be practically impossible to locate. Hang in there, excon. And thanks for taking the time to answer.

    Hello again, ice:

Why don't you look into the archives of the newspapers in the towns where those institutions are located?

I have a list of youth detention centers here in Georgia ( about 25 ) and I am going to fax them and ask them about the guidelines. What do you figure? I might hear back from 1 or 2? Probably none. I'll let you know.
