For about a year I dyed my hair black and straightened and blow dried it almost every day without a heat protector and my hair became really dry. Then about six months ago I wanted to go back to my natural color of light brown so I had the color stripped from it. Well it took about four hours, they charged me $200 instead of the original $50 and when it was all done my hair was bright orange and yellow(and not a blond yellow just yellow) and severely dried out. He told me to come back in a week but I was not about to go back and get charged triple the original price again and no one else would touch it. I tried to dye it a few times myself at home to a brown but the color would always wash out after a week or so. I stopped straightening and blow drying my hair and used a lot of products and it has become softer but its still not that good and has an orange tint to it. I found a dark blond color that dyes well but when the color starts to fade even the hair that has grown in and was never color stripped also fades to orange. It is still pretty damaged and the orange color looks horrible with my skin tone and dark eye brows. Is there anything I can do or do I just have to wait for all new hair to grow out? And does anyone know why it turned orange when it was suppose to be dark brown?

My best suggestion is to go back to the salon. Talk to the owner/manger be nice but firm that you want it fixed for the price of a normal color processing treatment. Short of that go to Sally's Beauty Supply and get some advise on the right color product to use. There formula's are purer and stronger than you can get in a box. I had my hair stripped when a dye job left me with maroon roots brown hair and black ends. I went red after the process because I thought it would cover the orange/yellow you talked about. I was right. I now use a over the counter color. I can not remember the brand but the box does say red hot browns. Good luck.

If you're a hair has a lot of orange undertones in it, you will need use a blue-base hair coloring product to neutralize the orange tones. You should go back to the salon and ask them to do a corrective color. If that's not an option, choose a dark "ash" brown hair color. Leave the color mixture on your hair for about minutes then wash it out. This should neutralize the brassy tones in your hair.

Use a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week until your hair looks healthy again. This will help restore moisture and repair some of the damage in your hair caused by hair dyes and styling products.
