    Yard Machine troubeshooting
    Hi,

I have an MTD manufactured Yard Machine ride-on lawn tractor. Everything runs smoothly until I engage the PTO (cutting blade). The machine is in the correct gear with the throttle open the correct amount and the deck lowers without incident. Yet when I attempt to engage the blade, the engine dies. Suggestions? The deck drive belt was replaced, but that hasn't helped either.

    Any help is appreciated.

Check the safety switch. You can jumper it out to test.

Thanks for the advice, and sorry to be so inept, but is that something I physically check/rest? My manual mentions several safety interlocking features and explanations involving the PTO, but none fit my problem. So, is there someplace I check to see if something like a switch has been physically thrown or something? Is that what you mean by "jumper out?" Thanks again and I apologize if I'm describing things poorly.

By jumpering out, I mean unpluging switch and taking a short wire and putting in the plug end. All you are doing is bypassing the switch. As for as where the switches are you will have to look at unit. They are plunger type switches. Look under the seat for one. Also check your PTO switch.
