    Child screams in bath
    Hi

I was wondering if anyone could explain or at least help me figure out why my 18 month old son always screams in the bath at his fathers house and never when he is home with me.?

I am by no means any expert on this. But, I am a parent who is divorced with two children who are now grown.

Just one possibility: If your son is more used to getting a bath by you than by his father, then maybe there is such a change in routine that it makes him upset?

    Just a guess.

I noticed that your question was yet unanswered, so I thought that I would make an attempt at answering it myself. I didn't want your question to get lost in the abyss of questions that have gone unanswered.

I am hopeful that others will come along with their opinions, suggestions and answers.

I agree with Clough. Probably more of a routine thing really. He is just used to be bathed by your.

May want to check that the water temperature is roughly the same also, just that bit warmer for us is a LOT warmer for a baby. Also check that his father isn't inadvertently frightening him somehow when putting him in the bath. It may help if his father bathed him a few times at your house with you there so both father and child got used to it a bit more and the child would be reasured with your presence there. Let him get to know that 'bath time with dad' isn't a bad thing. You don't want this to escalate into a phobia of bathing at his house so it does need to be dealt with.

Maybe his water is slightly hotter than your, does not like his way of bathing or just does it to get a rise off his dad

If your son sees water going down the drain this may cause it. Ask the father if he lets the water out when the son is in the tub. This happened with one of my kids and they were terrified that they would go down the drain as well. I filled the water in the tub and let it out after they were dryed, dressed and out of the bathroom, after a while they grew out of it at around 3 1/2. Also do not let them see the toilet flush. Hope this helps.

I will say that you seem to have more or other issues at mind, sorry just reading something not said into your question.

But yes, my wife * and we are married and living together** tells me almost every week that our child is totally different when he is with me, than with her. So often children take on a differnet bearing when with other parents. A fun bath play time, to a bath just to get clean and get out.
