Have you read the thousands of other posts here about signing rights away? Nope, didn't think so.

It means that he will not be able to make any decisions about the health and welfare of the child, but he will still be responsible for child support.

Take it from someone who went through what you're going through, let him sign away his rights. It's a lot better for you and the baby. That means that no matter what, he can't take away your child. I'm trying to get my ex to sign over my son, who is now 13 months old. I wish I would've never put his name on the birth certificate. My fiancée now wants to adopt my little boy, but I've got to get my ex's rights taken away first. Good luck!!

Well for amywife, the name on the birth certificate means nothing about rights, the father still has full rights after he proves he is the father though DNA testing.

At this point, he is just signing away his rights to visit, to have any say in the child's life. I will assume he believes, it means he does not have to pay child support, it does not, even if he signs over his rights you can still get child support from him, As soon as he knows this, I doubt he will want to sign over his rights, What he really wants ( my guess) is to get out of paying child support.

So if he wants to sign them away, let him, and still file for your child support he has to pay.

NOT TRUE! Once DNA is proven, the father must then go to court and have it legally acknowledged before he has "rights". Going through it right now.. =(

A man helps make a baby, it doesn't just involve a woman! Why should all that financial responsibility be on her? Sure if he doesn't want to be man and help raise the baby (which is a job on its own) HE SHOULD AND NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HELPING SUPPORT THE CHILD. I know there are women out there that work two jobs their whole life to make sure their baby has everything they need, they don't mind one bit but that IS NOT FAIR TO THEM! As a mother myself with a father that raised me on his own at first, I have high respect for men who realize they created a life and are there for the baby. My little girl's dad was unsure about "being a dad" but after spending time with her has come around and realizes she is the best thing that has ever happened to him. It takes any human person to make a baby, but it takes a MAN (or WOMAN) to raise a baby and take care of the life they made. Once the baby is adopted then the child support will be dropped, then there will be no problem, and the baby will have a GOOD FATHER in her life. (or in some cases the mother is the dead beat, but this goes for women just as it does men!! ) How can you think anyone should not be held responsible just because they want to "sign their rights over"?
