    Crohn's Pregnancy 2nd Opinion
My wife has Crohn's Disease that was just recently diagnosed (in the past year) and was slow in responding to medications (6MP and Prednizone). Obviously she will have to go off the 6MP before we have kids (she is already off the Prednizone). I have been asking her to get a second opinion from a second GI doc just to be absolutely sure we know what we are dealing with prior to going into a pregnancy so that if any issues arise we will know what we are fighting. She is hesitant to get the 2nd opinion saying that she trusts her GI doc. I trust him too but just want her to get the 2nd opinion as matter of being absolutely sure we know what we are dealing with so we can be as prepared as possible for any complications. Would you recommend getting a 2nd opinion to confirm the diagnosis of Crohn's prior to trying to have a child or is it a waste of time if she trusts her doc (like I said I trust him too I just want to be absolutely sure we know it's Crohn's so nothing sneaks up on us as in the middle of pregnancy).

I would defer to your wife and what she wishes in this instance. If she is happy with her present doc and doesn't feel she needs a second opinion, then I would leave it at that. Most certainly if she had any doubts in your mind she would want this too, and from what you say she obviously does not.

I have a wonderful doctor too. However, Crohn's can be such a serious and debilitating condition that I would want a second opinion if it were me. Now if it were something as simple as pneumonia or bronchitis, that is different, a second opinion is not warranted.

When I was diagnosed with cancer, I got a second opinion. Yes, cancer and Crohn's are different, but still in the serious category.

Because she wants to have children that is an even better reason for a second opinion In my opinion.
