    Cat breeding
My 3 year old Chinchilla Persian was in heat since last Monday. I was not going to let her have any babies but then my friends are asking for her kittens so I decided to let her have one litter before I spay her.

After a few days of looking for a stud, I found one today and it's been a week since she started her heat cycle. It's quite obvious that she's no longer in as much "heat" as she was in the past few days, but still a bit of meowing. Will she still get pragnant? Does cats get pragnant if mated while she's not in the heat cycle?

Before you let her breed are you certain that these babies are going to have forever homes? Have you had her vet checked to Make sure that she is physically up to it? Are you prepared to handle the financial aspects if problems arise before or during labor? Do you know what your friends position is regarding spaying, declawing etc? You need to let them know what kind of homes you expect for your kittens. People can be dependable in 1 area and take the attidue with animals that they are disposable. Ask a few questions before you committ your kittens. Heat Cycles and Pregnancy in Cats: Breeding Tips from HDW Enterprises and Foothill Felines Bengals. will give you some insight on breeding cats. Good luck

And what do you know about the stud? If your friends want kittens from your cat because they want Chincilla Persians, is the cross likely to produce them, or will you wind up with something entirely different, that your friends don't want? Is the male healthy, and does he have any genetic conditions that may be expressed in your kittens?

And finally... do your friends REALLY want your kittens? Quite often people will say something like "I'd love to have a kitten", but when push comes to shove suddenly they are too busy, or it's too expensive, or it's not really the right time right now with what's going on in their family...
