My mini dachshund was supposed to be fixed I don't know if there was still extra sperm left or what but towards the end of my females first heat my mom found them hooked together that was about a week ago now her teets are starting to swell up. What is happening?

Many neutered males will mate with a female in heat. I doubt he would have had enough residual sperm to impregnate her, but it could be possible. She could well be having a false pregnancy. They can be very convincing. A month or more later, an experienced person including a vet can feel any puppies. Since it could be an infection, an immediate vet visit would be a good idea. She could have been damaged in the mating too.
I wish your mother would forget about ever breeding her and get her spayed. We have entirely too many people that don't know what they are doing producing low quality puppies. If she knew what she was doing, she would know neutered males will still mate with females and that false pregnancies are common. What is her answer to the millions of dogs we slaughter for lack of homes?

"What is her answer to the millions of dogs we slaughter for lack of homes?" Could you please have your mom answer this question I am interested in her opinion as a breeder, also could she give me some feed back on what she thinks about daschshund rescues. If you are not aware of them just Google them up there should be a few hundred thousand of them to look at. Does she think that she is 1.adding to or 2. taking away from their problem of rehoming unwanted daschshunds? Also could she inform me of how she helps to ensure that her daschshunds off spring do not end one of the slaughtered or homeless. Thanks

Just breeding dogs in the past doesn't mean somebody has a clue how to do it right. Unfortunately the dogs suffer for it, plus the unwary that often pay high prices for puppies and then come here and elsewhere looking for help with problems that are the breeders fault. If your mother is such an well informed breeder, why didn't she know to keep her female in heat away from any male? Has she ever read any books? How about even browsing a website such as http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/images/breeding-off.jpg
Yes it would be nice if I were so gifted a writer I could give answers that would convince people to end their abusive practices without offending them. I will not abdicate the responsibility to speak out against anything I see as abusive. Go to the computer forum and ask how to get into My Space on the school computers or hack passwords and see what kind of a response you get. I am sick of people abusing dogs and objecting to me saying so. Chances are, most of the people breeding for the wrong reasons will blithely go ahead with it no matter what.

Why do I need to shut up? I just merely asked a few question that she /or you should be more than happy to answer. I am sure that she loves the daschshund breed and it seems she has passed it on to you. Be a good girl and Google up some rescues and get the stat's from your local shelter and see how many dogs were killed this year. Maybe the next time you allow your dog to breed, that number can keep going across your mind! Or you can imagine them in their little cages and shelters waiting for someone to come along and rescue them! Have a nice day:)

Ever hear of a crate? Small ones for a Dachshund are cheap.
Oh, and better than anything on the net , visit your local shelter. Ask them for sympathy about not being able to keep the dogs apart. Take notes on the dogs that are there. Go back in a week and check on what happened to the ones that are gone. Leave a nice check.

Dasch. Your female should have been spayed, not only because of breeding, but for health benefits as well. If you were not going to breed her why leave her intact? Then this post would have never been. We see weekly and daily post about daschshunds being pregnant. Frankly I am sick of it, I can't imagine how the people that have been on this site for years feel. All I can say is kudo's for their continued efforts of trying to inform and enlighten oblivious posters. Regardless of what you say if your dog is pregnant it is because of your failure to plan, research and properly prevent it.

How to find owners who also got sick pups from a breeder
[ 6 Answers ]
:( Is there any way to find people that got sick Dachshund pups from the same breeder. I mean there site says that you can talk to past buyers but you know they won't give you the names of dissatisfied buyers. I would really like to find out if others were done wrong too.
