    Blown Ritetemp 8050C thermostat
I have a 6 year old Trane heat pump air conditioning system and about 6 months ago added the Ritetemp 8050C thermostat. It worked flawlessly for 6 months then all of a sudden when I went to manually lower the temperature in cooling mode, the thermostat display and most of its functionality "blew" out. I've since replaced the thermostat twice and it continues to blow. The AC still works, just can't control the temp by lowering the thermostat. What keeps blowing out the thermostats? The up arrow that raises the temp works fine, just can't lower with the down arrow. The programs still will control the AC though.

Check for a short in the thermostat wiring to the air conditioning unit, may be shorting out and pulling high amp draw through thermostat, good luck, you have a strange one here. You might check to see if the stat wires on the subbase may be touching the back side of the thermostat, ( a shot in the dark)when you push on the buttons.
