    Water pressure gage reading
    I live in a townhouse with city water. My water pressure gage was reading 225 psi which had been rising for the past two years. Two days ago one of my overhead sprinklers started leaking so had to have it repaired. Two years ago another sprinkler pipe got a pinhole leak in it. The repairman said the psi should read around 80 or 90. Since I turned the water back on two days ago the pressure keeps increasing. It's now reading 90, this morning it was 75. Can anyone explain what is going on? The repairman told me at 250 psi the pipes would start bursting! I am constantly looking at the gage and worrying! I even went to the fire department and asked them but they didn't seem concerned.

    Standard pipe is rated for 150 psi, but usually takes much more. However if you really have over 200 psi, expect more trouble. The first thing I would do is replace the gauge. Talk to your neighbors. If the mains have that much pressure, every body will have trouble. You may have a pressure regulator where the water comes in too, a flat round thing with a screw on one side. It may need adjusted or replaced. If you aren't comfortable doing the above, better call the repairman back.

    Well some one should be concerned about it At 225 PSI you're 5 times the average house pressure of 45 PSI. To quote a old saying, "YOU'RE INNA A HEAP A TROUBLE,BOY!!" Get a PRV, (pressure relief valve ) installed on your water service AT ONCE!! I'm a little confused. First you tell me the water pressure's 225 and now it's 75 goining for 90 PSI. Water pressure's not supposed to fluctuate like that. What's going on? Regards, Tom
