Rainwater coming up in floor vents
After periods of very heavy rain over several days, water comes up in the floor vents of my HVAC system in my sunken living room. We have to then syphon it out with a wet vac. We have a French drain system, but this does not always prevent the problem. What can we do to fix this problem in the least expensive fashion? Is there a permanent fix to the problem?

Sounds like you ducks are in the concrete floor and I have never liked this arrangement. The expensive fix is to fill the ducks with concrete and install in the wall or overhead ducks, way way too expensive and messy. I would suggest you consider digging around the perimeter of your foundation to about 2 feet. Lay down some gravel and then perforated plastic pipe with a cloth sock, then more gravel. I'd also install a sump pump pit 2 feet deeper than the tile and discharge at least 15 feet from the home. Lots of lablor but only about $300. Be sure to slope your plastic tile toward the pit with a drop of about 1" every 4 ft.

My question is going to sound odd, but every professional I have spoke to on the phone has said they have never hear of such an issue. Last Friday, we had some asphalt removed from our garage door that was splattered by the company who repaved our driveway. The same company came out to clean up...

Foul odor coming from heat vents [ 1 Answers ]

I just bought a house and when we put on the heat for the first time in September, there is a foul odor coming from all of the heat vents in the house. I can't really pinpoint what the odor is, but it seems to be a sewer/rotten egg smell and you can smell it in every room of the house, but it does...

Furnace on but no heat coming out of vents [ 3 Answers ]

Hi. I have a natural gas furnace that's about 7 years old, in a house I just bought this summer. Today I was noticing that it was pretty cold, so I turned up the furnace. It went on, but after a while I noticed that there was no air coming from the vents. I tried to turn it off and on again but...

Musky odor coming from heat vents [ 1 Answers ]

We installed a humidifier to our furnace in February. Could it be causing the musky odor that we periodically get from the vents? What is funny about it is that the smell is not there 24/7 and when it is present it comes more from one or two vents only. If that makes any sense.
