Not sure if this is belt driven or direct drive but if belt driven check the belt. I direct drive check the coupling between the motor and trans. Will only have to remove motor to check. If direct drive and coupling looks OK then the trans is locked up

Thanks for the response it's a DIRECT drive - The coupling is loose but I can not tell if it is broken. You say I can just remove the motor to access?

Remove power to unit.Remove 2 spring clips holding pump to motor. No need to remove hoses. Set pump aside. 2 springs hold motor to trans. Could be screw holding spring clips on but these are just for shipping. Remove the spring clips and the motor will slide off. Look at coupling. Good or bad? Turn trans by hand in both directions. If it will not turn it is locked up.Work Safe. Good Luck

Thanks for the excellent advice - it would have taken me an hour to figure out how to remove the motor. The inside of coupler is worn out so it can not be driven by the motor shaft. I can rotate the transmission by hand counter clock wise several rotations however clock wise it hangs (after coupe of turns) I can feel the tub trying to rotate when turing CW. I have my washer resting at a 45d angle I am thinking the tub is binding otherwise the tran is seised and that's why my coupling is worn out?

Again thanks for the great advice.

Well, I'd say replace the coupling and see what it does. I'm thinking like you that the tub is binding the trans. Should be able to get at local appliance parts house for less than $20. Can't remember what I paid last time but it's been a while since I bought one. Check at Appliance Parts from RepairClinic.com - HomePage. They have them there but will have to check on shipping time. Seems like they are fairly fast. Good Luck and come back to this site again. Many good folks here willing to give good advice.

Clothes being caught between the base of the agitator and the "blades" can cause the tub not to spin too. Don't know why, just had that problem after replacing the coupler. I also looked the old coupler over really good, no defects were noted, but the new one is getting the tub to spin now.

Thanks again, Esquire1! You stopped me from spending $230 for a 1 year service agreement over a $20 part. YOU ROCK! I will be back for more advice, in the future.

GE Washer will Spin but will not agitate [ 4 Answers ]

I have no experience with appliances, but before calling a repair man, I was wondering what might cause a GE washer to be able to spin, but not agitate. Could it be something that I could fix on my own? I hear it trying to agitate, but kind of makes a buzzing noise when it is on the agitate cycle.

GE Washer won't spin or drain, but does agitate [ 2 Answers ]

I think the name of my clothes washer is GE Profile, model number WPSQ3120T2WW. It and our dryer came with our townhouse when we bought it four years ago. I've washed pillows before without any trouble (normal size), but this morning I washed two pillows and two sheets and then heard a loud...

This is a washer. Everything else is working as usual. It goes through all the wash cycles BUT, the agitator does not come on.
