Staffordshire bull terrier puppy
We have just bought a staff puppy, the breeder told us she was 8 weeks old but we now know she is only 5 weeks old. She is very lethargic, doesn't walk well and we don't know what to feed her. Please can you help us.? Also, what will she drink??
Thanks. J

At 5 weeks the puppy should be OK on a puppy chow. It would be best to continue what the breeder was feeding. It at all possible, at least get enough of it to make a slow switch over a week to the new chow to avoid digestive upset. At the worst, you may need to add a little water to soften a dry chow. Most puppy chows are fine. Choosing a concentrated meat based one will produce smaller, firmer stools, easier to clean up.
I don't like the lethargic at all. I would like to see an early vet visit, tomorrow if you have a vet that has Saturday hours. A 5 week old puppy should alternate very active periods with frequent naps. It is also about the time for the first round of shots.

John can you tell us what type of formula he put your puppy on? Did he give you an opinion on her age? Also did he give you a reason for the lethargy. Btw the way I am glad your puppy is feeling better it is good to see a caring pet owner. I hope that you consider spaying when the time is right. There are many health benefits to spaying. Also bringing puppies into this world brings up a whole lot of other issues. Speak to your vet and get his/her opinion. When you breed and sell or give them away they can end up with ruthless people that like to exhibt their power. Take a look at this site. It is not to graphic but gives you and idea of what some people consider these dogs to be good for. That is one of the reasons you must be very careful if you decide not to spay. ASPCA: Fight Cruelty: Dog Fighting Beside being informative on dog fighting this site will give you some good information on foods/chemicals that are poisonous, behavior training tips etc... take a look around. Good luck with your puppy
